Wandering around - Girovagando

On Sunday there was an event here at the castle of Ceglie Messapica to showcase new olive oil production and local culinary treats. There was music planned as well, but I didn't see or hear anything because, as usual, I arrived too early, which is to say only half an hour after the expected start of the event. By 5:15 half of the tables still had not been set up, and after chatting for a bit with a friend, I got tired of waiting, wandered off and took a few photos. I will never learn.

Maybe someday I'll learn to go to everything at least an hour late, or more.....

Oria (Brindisi)

A week ago I was briefly in the town of Oria (province of Brindisi, in the region of Puglia) for a workshop I attended there and was quite taken by its charm. So the day before yesterday I returned with friends to explore it some more. It has a very interesting history which you can read about here, and in the month of August it hosts a famous medieval festival in honor of the great Roman Emperor Fredrick II, that attracts people from all over Europe. I will be sure to return then, since I'm a bit of a Fredrick fan, having visited several of his castles in 1995 or 1996. As you can tell from a photo below, taken then, I felt right at home in his castle - stormy skies, powerful wind, and all. I think I need to do a painting of the great Fredrick.

And here is Oria.

Like a Magpie - Come una Gazza ladra.

Why I would start a second blog, when I'm constantly abandoning the first one, I don't know. Maybe for the same reason I pile up books I don't read, or get all excited about learning something new, only to move on to the next sparkly thing that catches my eye. Like a Magpie. That would have been a good name too. I think I will keep my first blog for everything artsy and this one for my current real life landscape, the red earth that surrounds me, hence the title "Nella Terra Rossa" (i.e. In the Red Earth). Now I have to figure out the best way to link one to the other. In the meantime, I leave you with these photos.

Adesso devo scoprire come collegare un blog all'altro. Vi lascio, per ora, con queste foto.
